'There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality'. Pablo Picasso

If you could say it in words, there would be no reason to paint." Edward Hopper

Jennifer Lawrence is an artist living on the south coast of NSW. Her work explores the idea of home and belonging.
The colours and textures of her work are inspired by the coastline near her house.
Jen is a painter who loves textile. She loves expressing herself through silk marking, stitching, paint and charcoal, paper and linen.

'I love silk because it has a history before it enters my studio. It has the stoicism or strength of experience to embrace the changes I might make to its appearance and texture.'

The practice of creating with these materials leads her down a path of creativity and expression in which she often loses all sense of time and space.

Jennifer is also an historian with a keen interest in literature and anthropology. She is also loves photography, and feels absolutely at home when she is wandering the Jurassic coastline she calls home.

'For whatever we lose (like a you or a me), It's always our self we find in the sea.' EE CUMMINGS
